by Tula Connell, Jul 13, 2007
When building and contruction workers peacefully protested working conditions at the Arizona job sites where they are employed by subcontractors of Pulte Homes, they were sprayed with powerful blasts of water from the contractors’ truck, which repeatedly circled back to spray them (see video).
On July 11, former Sen. John Edwards (N.C.) sent a letter to Richard Dugas, CEO of Pulte Homes, demanding the company take responsibility for subpar working conditions on its job sites.
Edwards wrote to Dugas that he wants to express his concern
with recent reports that workers building homes for your company in Arizona and Nevada are subject to troubling conditions at their worksites.
Moreover, there have been reports of unsafe working conditions…a lack of available drinking water, and unpaid overtime wages.
Edwards also noted that the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) General Counsel issued a complaint against one of Pulte’s key subcontractors, Chas Roberts Air Conditioning, that it threatened its workers with reprisals if they engaged in union activities.

On June 22, video footage was released showing Pulte subcontractors spraying high-pressure water at construction workers picketing Pulte subcontractors in Florence, Ariz.
