Union: Goodyear deal good for Tonawanda
http://www.bizjournals.com/buffalo/stories/2009/09/07/daily15.html

Wednesday, September 9, 2009, 1:26pm EDT | Business First of Buffalo - by Thomas Hartley

Union workers at the local Goodyear Dunlop Tires North America Ltd. plant and six other Goodyear sites are scheduled to vote on a tentative new contract in balloting to be concluded by Sept. 18.

The union, the United Steelworkers, represents about 950 hourly workers at the Town of Tonawanda facility.

The new agreement protects the local plant and the other locations from being closed, the union said, and requires Goodyear to invest a minimum of $600 million in capital expenditures to maintain its production facilities with modern equipment.

“In the event that the company decides to no longer produce truck tires at Buffalo (Tonawanda), 200 separation allowance buyouts will be made available to employees there,” the union said in a prepared statement. “The buyouts are calculated at $2,000 per year of service with a maximum payout of $50,000.”
