David Shepardson / Detroit News Washington Bureau

Washington -- Troy-based auto supplier Delphi Corp. is continuing to trim its salaried work force ahead of its planned exit from bankruptcy protection.

The company reportedly laid off about 150 salaried workers in recent weeks.

"The salaried work force has experienced layoffs over the past several months as staffing has been adjusted to meet reduced production volumes," Delphi spokesman Lindsey Williams said, without confirming the exact number. "The amount of salaried people on layoff status varies weekly and by division. We will continue to adjust staffing -- both hourly and salaried -- to meet current business needs."

As of June 30, Delphi's U.S. employment was about 14,000, with approximately 7,300 hourly workers. Delphi said earlier it planned to have about 12,700 workers by the end of the year and four plants.

Separately, Delphi may not emerge from bankruptcy protection by Sept. 30 as planned. The exit date may move to sometime in October.

"We continue to work toward obtaining the necessary regulatory approvals that will allow Delphi to exit Chapter 11. We expect to exit on or around Oct. 1, however, the actual timing will ultimately be impacted by the receipt of the necessary regulatory approvals," Williams said.
