3 New York Politicians Are Fighting Efforts To Move Factory Machinery Bought With Taxpayer Money

Three New York politicians are fighting Stella D’Oro’s plan to move machinery out of a closed New York City plant to Ohio. Jesse Russell Reports:

New York Representative Eliot Engel, Bronx Assemblyman Jeffrey Dinowitz, and New York City Councilman Oliver Koppell sent a joint letter to the New York City Department of Finance this week to protest a plan to move machinery purchased with tax payer money from a shuttered Stella D’Oro plant out of state. The cookie company has been sold to Lance Incorporated and the company plans to move jobs, production, and machinery to Ohio. The three politicians argue that any purchases or upgrades made with tax abatements should be returned to New York. Stella D’Oro’s former owners Brynwood Partners have packaged the equipment with the sale to Lance Inc. The trio has asked the Department to recover taxpayer’s funds and issue a restraining order against the sale of Stella D’Oro until a resolution can be reached.
