Union locals, graphics company settle strike

Two local branches of the Graphic Communications Conference/International Brotherhood of Teamsters and Greystone Graphics Inc. have settled the union's strike against the company.

Members of Local 235-M and Local 16-C of the union went on strike against Greystone Graphics, based in Kansas City, Kan., on June 21. The company employs about 50 members of the union locals.

Jim Lloyd, general manager of Greystone Graphics, said Tuesday that the strike was settled on July 9. The union and the company agreed to a 5.75 percent wage cut for current employees and a cut in the company's pension contributions of $3 per shift per employee, or 25 percent to 30 percent, Lloyd said.

Compensation cuts were the main source of tension between the union locals and the company, Byron Austin, president of Local 235-M, said June 25.
