A week in (Union Review) July 15 - July 21

July 15 - July 21, 2007 -- A round-up.

Another week passes at Union Review and the excitement to share labor news and views continues to grow. For a minute I sat back during the week and realized I was spending more time on comments and posts that readers in our community submitted than writing or posting new material on my own & that’s simply awesome!

There were a few conversations that found me waiting to see who was going to say what next on this-or-that subject matter: It is clear that most of us are on the same page, and clearly a few who have doubts. For example, this story Big business anti-unionism still cranking along at Enterprise Rent-A-Car which was posted by Joe638NYC brings up an issue at Enterprise that the writer (and most readers) agree would have a different outcome if the Employee Free Choice Act was in place.

We are beginning to address stories, like the one at Enterprise, with “solutions” to the “issues,” and though, as mentioned, some of us are not in total agreement, we are very close. This kind of discussion back-and-forth, which is opening a dialog between workers who would have probably never met one another before, is something that feels good to witness, but even better to be part of … at least for me.

A newer member of our UR community, Justme, submitted an interesting article called Labels Lack Food's Origin Despite Law, which at first both Justme and myself were not entirely sure belonged on Union Review. As it turns out – we were both proved wrong. I applaud her efforts in writing to ask if she should post before she did, amazingly respectable and kind, and I am grateful that folks set the tone about why this kind of article does in-fact belong in our “library” of information.

FULL story at link.
