: “LBJ took the same path in Vietnam. It cost him the Great Society. It set our country back decades, both socially, morally, economically and politically. And President Obama risks walking into the same quagmire.”

U.S. Labor Against The War’s Michael Eisenscher on President Obama’s escalation of the Afghan war. Eisencher says the labor movement has yet to come to terms with the idea that foreign policy is a union issue. He says there will be no significant domestic progress as long as we are anchored to the military-industrial complex and an aggressive foreign policy that uses the military as a substitute for negotiation, diplomacy and development. U.S. Labor Against The War urges resistance to Obama’s Afghan war escalation.

: “We cannot be satisfied with silence. This is not a time for silence. I would encourage people to pick up the phone and call the White House call-in line, to write to their members of Congress and the Senate to register their opposition to this new direction and to encourage them to support Barbara Lee’s initiative in the Congress to cut off funding for all new troops.”

Anti-war labor leaders and activists from all over the country will meet in Chicago this weekend for U.S. Labor Against The War’s third National Assembly.
