In New York City members of the National Association of Broadcast Employees and Technicians (NABET) decided to go ahead with the lighting of the NBC Christmas tree in Rockefeller Center. The union had threatened to block the lighting of the tree over unresolved labor contract issues. NABET 11 President Ed McEwan says more than 3,000 union members at NBC in New York, Chicago, Los Angeles and Washington D.C. have been without a contract since March and a strike is a real possibility.

: “We're doing everything in our power not to let that happen. But without movement, with little cooperation from this company who's dictating rather than negotiating, the danger is real."
