But, while I certainly had a brief and scary excursion to Devil-Wears-Prada land, most of my bosses have been distracted and benign at worst, or supportive and creative at best.
That is not the case with those who are posting "My Bad Boss" stories in an online contest being run at WorkingAmerica.org. For the next five weeks, workers can vent at WorkingAmerica.org/badboss, and site visitors can vote.
Among those that viewers are signaling as the best worst boss stories:
-- The attorney who would call his office at 8:05 a.m. from his bathroom, giving instructions as he did his morning eliminations, brushed his teeth and even showered – this all on speaker phone.
-- The restaurant manager who not only dismissed his waitress's concerns about a customer who scrawled love notes to her on placemats and started stalking her, but actually hired the offender to bus tables.
-- The vacationing manager who screamed at a woman for taking the day off to bring her husband, newly-diagnosed with a brain tumor, to visit a surgeon. The boss insisted the woman bring in a note from the doctor.
