UAW President Ron Gettelfinger says Congress holds in its hands the power to put tens of thousands of Americans in some of our hardest-hit industries back to work. The UAW says a new report released Tuesday shows that with investments in green vehicle technology and the right policy choices as many as 150,000 new U.S. jobs could be created. The technology will increase vehicle fuel effiency and reduce emissions. Gettelfinger says by continuing the Advanced Vehicles Manufacturing Incentive Program, Congress can make it much more likely that U.S. green jobs will be created in the auto and allied industries.

: “And continued funding of this ATVM is one of the UAW’s top priorities in any climate change legislation.”

The UAW President says this funding provides the critical funding support the U.S. auto industry needs to transition into greener vehicles while adding jobs.

: “It supports both production and engineering jobs, it helps suppliers as well as OEM’s. And it helps to maintain a healthy foundation for our industry here in the U.S.”

The report from the UAW, the Natural Resources Defense Council and the Center For American Progress demonstrates that a new fleet of fuel efficient vehicles would let drivers enhance energy security and reduce carbon emissions while putting auto workers and many others back to work.
