Workers at Sutter Roseville (certified nursing assistants) vote pro-union, again

by Kathy Robertson Staff writer Friday, March 19, 2010

A majority of certified nursing assistants, radiology technicians and other caregivers at Sutter Roseville Medical Center voted again this week for representation by Service Employees International Union-United Healthcare Workers West.

The vote was 315 for the union, 150 against. The vote affects about 600 workers.

The election follows a similar vote in August, when an effort by some workers at the hospital to go non-union also failed. The vote that time was 327 in favor of the union and 225 against.

Following the election, a protest was filed with the National Labor Relations Board alleging there was pro-union campaigning while workers lined up to vote. The NLRB agreed the complaint has sufficient grounds to call for another election, said Tim Peck, a spokesman for the board’s regional office in San Francisco.
