Job Announcement



9to5, National Association of Working Women seeks an experienced 3/4-time organizer based in Los Angeles to help build a statewide campaign for paid sick days for all Californians. 9to5 is a grassroots membership organization, founded in 1973, which strengthens women’s ability to work for economic justice. Our goals are to build leadership among low wage working women and to win improvements in workplace and public policy. We are playing a leadership role in current campaigns focused on paid sick days, expanding family leave, increasing the minimum wage and protecting affirmative action programs. This position is anticipated to last for one year, contingent on continued funding.



Duties & Responsibilities:

1. Campaign Outreach and Membership Building: Design and implement major outreach campaigns focused on Los Angeles unions and community organizations. Involve organizations and members in programs and strategies. Oversee the development and design of campaign materials. Administrative duties including tracking outreach efforts, creating workplans, reports and maintaining campaign files, contacts and member databases. May lead multi-city work teams.
2. Fundraising/Financial Management: Develop chapter budget and fundraising plan. Help identify funding sources; assist Development Director with proposal development for funding; write required reports for funders; organize grassroots fundraising events. Build relationships with funders, direct donor outreach and cultivation.
3. Member Recruitment/Development: Identify and train leaders, facilitate chapter Board development. Lead workshops and trainings for members and constituents.. Represent 9to5 in the community. Train leaders for speaking on issue campaigns and to the media.
4. Organization and Staff Development: Work with leaders and staff to evaluate organizational growth, recruitment and campaign strategies. Coordinate, supervise and evaluate staff and interns. May represent 9to5 as spokesperson in local as well as national issue campaigns, coalitions and speaking engagements.



Qualifications:

¨ At least five years organizing experience with a community, labor or women’s organization.

¨ Bilingual – Spanish/English strongly preferred.

¨ Some understanding of unions and labor.

¨ Experience in working in and building coalitions.

¨ Organizing experience, including strategic planning and supervision experience.

¨ Must initiate own work plan and work reports. Excellent planning skills, time management, ability to prioritize work and account for results.

¨ Strong written and oral communication skills.

¨ Grantwriting, budgeting and reporting experience.

¨ Demonstrated commitment to anti-oppression work and values.

¨ Demonstrated experience in working with diverse populations.

¨ Thorough knowledge of Microsoft Office and database programs.



Details:

Salary based on $40,000 for full-time; pro-rated based on 30 hours per week. Excellent health and family benefits and paid time off package. 9to5 is an affirmative action employer.
