Lest we need to be reminded

Hi Friends,

Last week I was fortunate enough to experience one of the largest worker victories - ever.

5,500 home care workers overwhelmingly voted YES to unite with SEIU. (http://www.seiuhcwi.org) and while I've been trying to wrap my head around this massive victory for these workers, a photo gallery on Flickr was set up. (http://www.flickr.com/photos/seiu/4586908140/in/set-72157623887259321)

The first thing that crossed my mind, after looking at the gallery, (cliche coming) was ...these pictures tell a thousand words - if not more.



Workers who organize one another to build a union, to get a voice on their jobs, to get benefits they never had before -- to make a difference not only in their working lives, but their family lives as well -- that's what this all about. These workers collectively agreed to raise the standards in their industry, and not only at their shops, but throughout the country as well. This effort to organize and raise standards should be applauded with every opportunity we get.


"I love my work and I put my clients first," said home care provider Odessa Robinson of Wasau.

Odessa and her fellow homeSEIU Wisconsin Workers Organize care workers knocked on doors and made phone calls to talk to other home care providers about joining with SEIU. "I knew we had to unite our voices if we were going to have any strength," she said.
