The AFL-CIO is calling on congressional candidates to support the Promoting American Jobs And Closing tax Loopholes Act of 2010. AFL-CIO President Rich Trumka says candidates often talk about jobs, now they have a chance to back up the talk with action. And Trumka says phony concerns about increasing the deficit won’t fly regarding this jobs bill. For years, Trumka says, surpluses were spent on breaks for the rich, but investing money in jobs for working people somehow sets off the deficit alarm bells. The jobs bill will put Americans to work repairing crumbling infrastructure, stemming public sector layoffs, getting more bank loans to small business and extending unemployment benefits through the end of this year. The AFL-CIO says this jobs bill will also put 300,000 unemployed youth to work this summer.
