did exactly that a few weeks ago. 2 professional firms were thrown together in a merger mid 2006 and after a year it started to go bad. After the professional who everyone liked was fired in a "power" struggle for very bogus reasons, we went out and formed a new company. Most of the important clients came with us and now the other company is going broke from lack of work. They have begged us to come back promising all sorts of perks but we declined. Working with people we like and respect is more important to us than a few extra $ an hour.
