WORLD-HERALD BUREAU

LINCOLN — Teachers at state-run institutions and professors at state colleges won separate salary disputes Friday.

In both cases, the Nebraska Supreme Court upheld decisions by the Commission of Industrial Relations.

As a result, the teachers will get 4.2 percent raises for the 2009-10 school year and 3.9 percent for the current year.

The college professors will get raises of 7 percent and 4 percent for the same years, plus additional increases for promotions.

Salaries for last year will be paid retroactively.

The commission favored salary proposals made by the teachers' and professors' unions, finding that they came closer to making salaries comparable to the marketplace than proposals offered by the state, in the one case, or the State College Board, in the other.
