http://www.laborradio.org/node/14014

By Doug Cunningham

The United Auto Workers Thursday welcomed the news that GM posted a $1.3 billion profit in the second quarter. UAW President Bob King said the sacrifices and hard work of UAW GM workers is an enormous part of the GM turnaround. The union sys it looks forward to working with new GM CEO Daniel Akerson. Current GM CEO Ed Whitacre said Thursday he’s stepping down in September. GM has repaid its government loan and is expected soon to offer new stock in a bid to repay the government for the rest of the tens of billions of dollars it provided to save GM.
