Moraine Delphi plant to close; 315 to lose jobs
Source: Dayton Daily News

By Thomas Gnau

MORAINE — Delphi Corp. has alerted the state that it intends to close its Kettering Boulevard plant in early- to mid-October, displacing about 275 hourly and 40 salaried workers, a letter from Delphi says.

Members of the International Union of Electronic Workers-Communication Workers of America, which represents workers at the plant, have long expected the move.

"They (Delphi) have been telling us we don't have a chance for that site at all," Willie Thorpe, the Moraine-based chairman of the IUE-CWA Automotive Conference board, said in May.

"While the parties are continuing to work towards a consensual resolution concerning this closure and its impact upon our employees, it is Delphi's intent that the Moraine facility will be closed commencing in early- to mid-October 2007," Terry A. Mack, Delphi human resources director, wrote in an Aug. 1 letter to the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services.

1. Michigan Repubs would have you believe we're in a 'single-state recession'
...and that the rest of the country, Ohio included, is doing just fine.

Obviously not.

12. Ironic you should say that.
My repuke brother-in-law said the same thing last night, LOL. He is the typical Fox Infotainment/ Rush listener. He says that Michigan is the only State with the bad economy, must be a Rush talking point. I had to stomach an hour of Fox Infotainment while playing cards and surprise, surprise, not one mention of the Iraq fiasco.

4. Yes, OhioChick, I am thankful EVERY day
that a close family relative's manufacturing job that sustains his family through his manual labor is STILL there in Ohio...

B*sh you son of a bitch - your policies along with the mistakes of NAFTA from the previous Congress & Administration, and the corporate greed to please investors has done this to our country!

3. The rest of the story
What this doesn't mention, and what we've known here in the Detroit Market for a while, is that the work is likely headed to Mexico.
