Republicans attended a welcome back ceremony for auto workers in Tennessee. There was not much rejoicing. Jesse Russell reports:

Tennessee Republican Bob Corker wasn’t greeted with much enthusiasm during a ceremony welcoming workers back to a Spring Hill, Tennessee auto manufacturing plant. Corker joined two other Republican lawmakers for the ceremony which saw General Motors welcoming 483 workers back to the plant. According to online auto magazine Jalopnik Corker was booed when he claimed to have contributed to helping strengthen the auto industry in the country. Corker, along with the two other Republicans in attendance Senator Lamar Alexander and Rep. Marsha Blackburn, all opposed the Obama Administrations successful auto industry bail out bid. In March of 2009 Corker called the move a “major power grab.” Alexander said in March of 2009 the bail out was a move in the wrong direction. And Blackburn said in December of 2008 that Obama’s plan wouldn’t make the industry more successful or efficient. According to Jalopnik an official from the UAW made it clear auto workers will remember at election time the politicians that refused to help the ailing auto industry.

2. Recommended.
I like the idea of Corker being booed on this specific issue by these specific workers, and for that matter, also on general terms.

11. The good people of TN will re-elect the lot of them, lock, stock, and barrel for:
it's as good as money in the bank 'cause too many good Tennesseans are eaten up with the reichousness of a true-believer, be it the gun toters, the anti-abortionists, the closet-racists, the not-so-closet racists, the out-and-out racists, those openly professing to love Jesus while actively supporting pre-emptive wars of aggression, the insanely ignorant, the ignorantly insane, et al. Lock, stock, and barrel and, while hopefully I'll have to eat my words in astounded glee, it's a done-deal money-in-the-bank slam-dunk imo in view of the nature and character of the general electorate. :patriot:

This is so nice to hear! People actually DO have longer memories than i previously believed. Perhaps November won't turn out so bad after all - if people remember.

7. the 24" mill i worked at received a big order for steel beams...
after the ironworkers at the springhill plant refused to weld canadian steel. so i will proudly say that the beams in the plant are marked nws&w usa. of course the chinese cut the price of beam and by 2000 the mill was going broke.

8. But some of the auto workers did applaud.

This shows us how uninformed some in the auto worker audience are.

Like the rest of his Republican colleagues, Bob Corker knows what he says and what he does as a legislator does not matter. The reason it won't matter is because the media simply will not call him on it. He knows full well he will not be held to account for his actions. This is why Republicans are willing to say and do the most ridiculous things. They have cover from the media.

when visiting my sister who lives down 12 a bit.. Anyway it was election season and my radio station was bombarded with Corker ads. All I could think of was "Who would vote for this asshole?"

Apparently there are many in central TN that did and it bit them in the ass.

However, I'm sure they just love him at the Nissan plant in Franklin and the VW plant in Chattanooga.
