Omaha construction firm closes (140 jobs)

WORLD-HERALD STAFF WRITER

A commercial construction company in Omaha operating as CYC Construction and Remcon General Contractors Inc. has closed, resulting in the loss of 140 jobs.

CYC specialized in concrete projects, and Remcon was a regional steel and precast erection company. They were owned by Kimberly Remmereid, who also owns Remmereid Holdings and Kimcon Inc., a rebar firm.

A woman who answered the door at the companies’ headquarters, at 1003 S. 152nd St., said they had closed, but details surrounding the closing were unclear.

According to documents from the Nebraska Secretary of State’s Office, numerous creditors, including the Internal Revenue Service, TierOne Bank (now Great Western Bank), and First National Bank have filed liens against Remmereid, her husband, Todd Remmereid, and their companies as far back as 1998.

Kimberly Remmereid and Shelly Jochim, director of operations and business development for Remcon Inc., did not return phone messages left Monday.

The headquarters, a two-story, 25,000-square-foot building, opened in December 2008 and was designed to house 250 employees, according to a 2008 World-Herald article. At that time, Jochim said the building was designed to allow for growth.
