The Threat Of A Strike Looms At Kohler Co. (2,300 workers)

http://www.wisn.com/r/25201840/detail.html

KOHLER, Wis. -- There's a threat of a strike at the Kohler Co., and the company and a union are deep in negotiations.

This wouldn't be the first strike Kohler has witnessed. Pictures of an intense strike in 1954 still hang on the walls of the local U.A.W. 833.

That strike lasted years, which is in the back of the minds of U.A.W. members as they're deep in contract negotiations once again. The union represents 2,300 manufacturing and skilled workers. Union and company leaders are tight-lipped about any sticking points, but the union did vote to authorize a strike if the two sides can't come to terms.

"We're trying to work with the company, hopefully we get a good contract," said head union Trustee Dave Strohschoen.

While the homes in Kohler are no longer filled with just Kohler employees, the company is still an important piece of the community.
