SEIU Members from 23 States to Join 'One Nation' March to Put America Back to Work and Pull America Back Together

Washington, D.C. - When Americans from all over the country stand united on the National Mall this Saturday as One Nation Working Together, tens of thousands of janitors, homecare workers, security officers, childcare providers and other members of the Service Employees International Union will be standing by their side.

"Working people are facing the greatest crisis of our generation," said SEIU President Mary Kay Henry. "We are coming together on October 2nd and mobilizing to vote on November 2nd because we want to move this country forward. We need to invest in jobs, reform our broken immigration system, and give every child a great education."

One Nation Working Together is about more than just one day. SEIU members coming to Washington, D.C., on Saturday from 23 different states have each signed a personal pledge to turnout 10 voters on Election Day.

"One Nation Working Together is a chance to demand the change we voted for in 2008," said George Gresham, president of 1199 SEIU United Healthcare Workers East. "While some want to divide us and take us back, we are determined to move forward with new investments in our people."

"I am taking part in One Nation because so much is at stake in November and I want to be part of the solution," said SEIU Local 5 member Mary Ann Pryor, a substance abuse counselor from Denver, Colorado. "We need to invest in people and create good jobs - jobs that allow people to buy a home, raise a family, and have a secure retirement."

SEIU members are coming to Saturday's One Nation march from the District of Columbia plus the following 23 states: California, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Tennessee, Virginia, West Virginia, and Wisconsin.

MEDIA NOTES:

-SEIU President Mary Kay Henry is scheduled to deliver 12:30 pm ET remarks at Saturday's One Nation march from the Lincoln Memorial stage.

-SEIU Secretary-Treasurer Eliseo Medina delivers 10:55 am ET remarks at Saturday's Immigration Pre-Rally on the U.S. Capitol's West Lawn.
