SAN MATEO -- A construction worker from Sacramento fell to his death Friday morning at the Woodlake Shopping Center, authorities said.

The man, identified by the San Mateo County Coroner's Office as 23-year-old Cristobal Reyes-Segura, was working on the outside of a building on the 800 block of North Delaware Street around 10 a.m. when he fell from a beam, according to a San Mateo police statement. It's not clear what he was doing at the moment of the fall or how high up he was.

Reyes-Segura was employed by a subcontractor working on the project to remodel the shopping center, said Brett Mykrantz, a manager at construction company SD Deacon Corp., the general contractor on the job. Reyes-Segura worked as an installer of metal studs in the frames of buildings.
