The United Auto Workers say preliminary financing is committed to DG Consortium’s integrated clean energy project that could ultimately lead to as many as 100,000 U.S. jobs. UAW President Bob King says the the union is excited to be part of this project to build components for DG’s proposed large-scale clean energy generation and distribution system. Bonds are being used to finance the project and the UAW says it has a constructive relationship with DG. The UAW says the first phase of the project is expected to employ 11,000 people in New York, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Ohio and Indiana within six months. They will build wind turbine, solar energy and water electrolysis equipment. The UAW says the jobs created by the DG Consortium project will be distributed at approximately 25 facilities, mostly former automotive factories, across the U.S. Within 18 months, the union says, an expected 100,000 U.S. jobs will be created by the project. The consortium says as many as 1.2 million new jobs will be stimulated indirectly once full deployment of the project is achieved.
