Job Description



Interfaith Worker Justice (IWJ) is a progressive and growing national organization that educates, organizes, and mobilizes the faith community and workers across the nation on issues and campaigns that will improve wages, benefits, and working conditions for all workers, especially workers in low-wage jobs. The organization is seeking an experienced Organizing Director to coordinate IWJ's dynamic economic justice campaigns, provide technical assistance for affiliates, and supervise and train a growing department of staff and interns.

Accountability: The position is directly accountable to the Executive Director.

Responsibilities:

Low-Wage Issue Campaign Leadership.
* Lead the development and refinement of one or two campaign strategies;
* Oversee the implementation of appropriate strategies and tactics;
*Provide staff support to IWJ's advisory board;
* Represent the organization in public and in the media on the issues;
* Write organizing materials for use by the IWJ network.

IWJ affiliate network training and technical assistance.
*Provide support and technical assistance to affiliates including assistance with goals and objectives, fundraising plans, and campaign strategies;
*Develop new affiliate organizations in priority cities;
*Lead organization-building workshops as part of IWJ's training program.

Staff Supervision and Leadership.
* Supervise the work of staff and interns in the Organizing Department;
* Convene and lead department meetings;
* Ensure that department goals and objectives are met;
* Provide leadership in collaborating with other departments on joint projects and overall organizational work.

Other.
* Represent the organization in meetings;
* Participate in regular staff meetings and events;
* Attend board meetings;
* Perform other tasks as requested.

Location: The Organizing Director will be based in Chicago at the national Interfaith Worker Justice headquarters.

Hours: This is a full-time position. National travel is required.

Salary: Mid-50s plus generous benefits.

Skills and Experience Needed:
* At least four years experience community or labor organizing.
* Experience building an organization.
* Experience supervising staff and working with a board of directors.
* Commitment to economic justice.
* Strong experience working with religious communities.
* Strong writing and personal communication skills.
* Ability to travel. This position requires 30 percent domestic travel.
