1. Pretty decent salaries for the area
I noticed the Medical Services Rep position starts at over $3K a month. Given the price of homes, that's not too bad a starting pay for an intake interviewer job.

I didn't realize that the Santa Barbara area had some housing prices that were fairly mid range. Lompoc looks nice with the shore and vineyards right there.

If I had it to do over again, I'd be tempted. Heck, given my experience I'm tempted right now. But I'm retired and too lazy to start a new career. And they'd probably never hire a 64 year old "know it all", lol. I really liked interviewing different people all the time, though.

It sounds like an opportunity that will get lots of applicants.

2. I'm 64 and they hired me three years ago.

I am an accountant and make just about 100K plus benefits. They have no age discrimination. You fill out the form on the web site and they decide if you qualify. If you do you are notified and they set up an interview. They do not ask for age information, race or sexual preference or political party or anything. We are in the SEIU union.

I live in Lompoc and there is a clean air express bus and if you ride it 80% of the time you get two extra vacation days.

3. Reading the job description, requirements and benefits - it's an excellent opportunity
From what you've detailed it sounds like a good place to work.

Being happily retired in Colorado, we'll stay put especially because selling ones home is so difficult here right now. And I'd need a major brush up of my once very decent bilingual skills. But it felt really good seeing how there are some positions out there in such a lovely place.

The benefits sound quite good. I didn't understand too well about the medical insurance. It almost sounds like a person would have to seek their own and get a subsidy.

But no matter what, it's a very decent pay and benefits package overall for these days that sounded familiar to what I enjoyed working for the state here.

4. It is a good place to work now but the right wants to take away our union, pension
and pay scale.

The meme is that we make more than the private sector and they hope to turn private sector workers against us. The real reason is greed, they don't want to pay taxes.

We didn't lose our representation or bargaining power like the private sector and most of our Board of Supervisors are left leaning. Santa Barbara is mostly Democratic even though it is a wealthy city. We have UCSB and people who don't want the coast line developed.
