The Apollo Alliance is a coalition of labor, businesses, and environmentalists that are seeking to revitalize the United States economy by creating green jobs – and they have a plan. Jesse Russell reports:
On Wednesday the group released a report called Make It In America: The Apollo Clean Transportation Manufacturing Action Plan. The plan, dubbed TMAP, calls for investing $40 billion per year over six years into modernize roads, mass transportation, and upgrading infrastructure components such as bridges. The result of such an investment is projected to result in the creation of 600,000 jobs in manufacturing and overall 3.7 million. Apollo Alliance member and United Steelworkers President Leo Gerard said this type of investment would be a major step toward rebuilding a middle class in America.
: If we were to invest 10 billion annually to expand passenger rail, new high speed rail and $30 billion into public transit we could create 3.7 million more jobs and that would be terrific, because it is the industrial jobs, those manufacturing jobs that will help rebuild the middle class.
