1.2 million workers are looking at a new year without jobless benefits if Congress fails to act on federal emergency extensions before November 30. That comes from a new report by the National Employment Law Project released on Friday. Three hundred eighty seven thousand workers are the newly laid off – workers who are only receiving the 26 weeks of regular state benefits. The rate of jobs has increased very little this year with only one job available for every five unemployed worker. According to the unemployment report released by the Bureau of Labor Statistics on Friday eleven states are in the double digits with Nevada claiming the unfortunate title of highest unemployment rate. Nevada currently has a rate of 14.4 percent – topping Michigan which held the distinction for four years until May of this year.
