Blind employees of an Omaha nonprofit that helps blind people find jobs are suing their employer, claiming they are blocked from filling supervisory positions and that sighted workers are treated better.
In a lawsuit filed late Tuesday in U.S. District Court in Omaha, the National Federation of the Blind of Nebraska Inc. also contends that Outlook Nebraska Inc. pays its blind employees less than it pays its sighted employees, who make up a small percentage of its work force.
"Some blind workers have been specifically told that they will not be allowed to manage because they cannot see," the lawsuit says.
Outlook Nebraska's chief executive officer, Eric Stueckrath, declined to comment Wednesday, saying he hadn't seen the lawsuit.
