Report Confirms The Union Advantage For Lower-Wage Workers
By Doug Cunningham

The union advantage for low-income workers is undeniable, according to a new report from the Center for Economic and Policy Research. The report, Unions & Upward Mobility For Low-Wage Workers”, found workers in unions made 16 percent more money and they were much more likely to have health insurance or a pension plan. On average, the report found, unionization means $1.75 an hour more for low-wage workers. John Schmitt, a senior economist at the Center for Economic and Policy research, helped write the report. He says it shows that when workers have a voice at work they can dramatically increase wages even in jobs that historically haven’t paid very much.
