Workers at international delivery company DHL's Lehigh County distribution center will vote next month on forming a union, a government official said Monday.

Scott C. Thompson, deputy regional attorney with the National Labor Relations Board, said the NLRB will monitor the election, which will take place Sept. 12 and Sept. 13 at DHL's facility on Nestle Way, Upper Macungie Township.

Meanwhile, the NLRB has found merit with union allegations that the company violated labor law by allegedly hampering a union-organizing campaign, according to Thompson.

The NLRB will file an official complaint against DHL if the company does not agree by Wednesday to a settlement, Thompson said. If the board files an official complaint, it would then be litigated before a labor board judge, he said

DHL spokesman Richard Gibbs said the NLRB has not found any "unlawful conduct" by the company. He also said the company maintains the union's claims "have no merit and a settlement is unlikely at this time."
