Attention News Editors:
Workers choose Steelworkers' union at Halton recycling

KAMLOOPS, BC, Sept. 5 /CNW/ - Workers at Halton Recycling Ltd, a Kamloops
paper-recycling plant, have won the right to be represented by the United
Steelworkers' (USW) Local 1-417.

Local 1-417 will represent the workers in collective bargaining talks at
dates to be determined.

Workers joined the union to be treated with fairness, dignity and respect
on the job, said USW Organizer Gord MacIntosh, who worked on the campaign with
local union officer Ed Repka.

Issues include wages, which now begin at around $9 an hour, as well as
recognition of seniority, improved health and safety and better training.

"We welcome workers at Halton Recycling into our union," said Local 1-417
President Marty Gibbons. "We also congratulate the workers for standing firm
in support of our union in spite of some unwarranted tactics used by the
employer."

2. Excellent - My Dad and I both liked the Union - The Steelworkers Xmass party was the only one
I ever was invited too or went to - held at the movie theater every year - A lot of good memories (even later there were still good union memories when I had to work for a living as a steelworker!) :-)
