BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- New jobs are coming to downtown Birmingham.

AT&T is expected to invest over $3 million dollars and create 367 new jobs in the area.

The jobs will be at a new customer care center and will support AT&T's high-speed internet service.

So what will this mean for the local job market?

Alabama's unemployment rate is already very low, but a local business expert said the new AT&T jobs will provide good opportunities for a certain segment of Birmingham job seekers.

Tuesday's announcement is part of an effort by AT&T to bring 3,000 customer service jobs back to the United States.

Call center workers in Birmingham will serve as the first layer of technical support for people who subscribe to AT&T's high speed internet service.

4. From a purely technical standpoint...
I do not recommend AT&T. They are not doing much investment in their DSL infrastructure, choosing instead to sink a lot of cash into UVerse, their TV/DSL/Julienne Fries scheme, which is generally only being deployed into a very few affluent markets. Their present DSL scheme, to the consumers, is archaic and incredibly problematic.

If you just want good DSL, I am sure there are other companies where you are who will give you a much more solid product.

5. I have AT&T DSL
I have hated calling customer service. You can't understand what they are saying. It may be, (call my cynical) but maybe they are trying to improve their image after letter the government spy on us willy nilly.
