Letters To The Editor: Don't scapegoat unions, they support all workers

http://www.mcall.com/news/opinion/letters/all-gaydos.6022214sep08,0,4210514.story

I take offense and disagree with the Aug. 30 letter saying that unions support lazy, grumbling and greedy workers.

Let's stop the scapegoating and hatred of fellow Americans, similar to what the Rush Limbaughs and Sean Hannitys of the world do. Unions support all decent and hard-working people, both union and non-union, who want a higher standard of living and better benefits.

As a proud, 25-year member of the IBEW Local 375 and third generation union member, I welcome all workers who share the same views that we do to organize and strive for collective barganing to improve our families' and communities' lives. Our union and all of the others wish to see all working people achieve this basic but essential right.

We do not condemn any people who toil day after day to feed their families and pay their bills. Remember, democracies have unions and promote workers' rights. Communism, fascism, and dictatorships do not support workers' rights. Long live our Democratic way of life!

1. I wish there was a book that explained unions that could be donated to schools
explaining why unions came about, the struggle that took place to get them and what they've accomplished and how that affects all workers union or other wise. Even better would be a short unit that could be taught in schools.

2. Good LTTE
A well written piece. More need to understand that even non-union workers benefit from the gains made by unions. Unions while not perfect are "the rising tide that lift all boats".:toast:
