still in 1917 we were striking for a 8 hours day in some areas (2007 CPI is about 14 times what it was in 1914, so a $2.50 a day wage (which was being won by unions around that time) would be about $35 a day, or a union minimum wage of about $4.38. The unions have made a difference over the years.
