Culinary, bartenders unions to ramp up strike preparations
Associated Press - September 17, 2007 10:34 PM ET

LAS VEGAS (AP) - The culinary and bartenders unions are preparing to ramp up their strike preparations tomorrow (Tuesday).

Union members working at 14 casinos and two industrial laundries are to begin signing up for strike benefits tomorrow morning in downtown Las Vegas in preparation for a possible strike.

More than 8,000 members working under old contracts voted overwhelmingly to endorse a strike call last week.

The unions say they have a war chest of $80 million to support workers on the picket lines if talks with management on new long-term contracts break down.
