(Cincinnati) Firefighters claim retaliation
BY BARRETT J. BRUNSMAN | BBRUNSMAN@ENQUIRER.COM

UNION TWP. - The union that represents firefighters in this Clermont County community claims it is being retaliated against for endorsing someone other than an incumbent trustee in the Nov. 6 election. The union filed an unfair labor practices complaint against the township Monday.

Some firefighters fear that they will be fired for exercising their constitutional right to free speech, said Jamie Osborne, president of Union Township Professional Firefighters Association Local 3412.

The 52 firefighters and emergency medical technicians who belong to the local have been harassed and intimidated since endorsing Cliff Johnson for trustee over incumbent Matt Beamer in the nonpartisan election, Osborne said.

Fire Chief Stanley G. Deimling said the union is free to back any candidate it pleases and that policy changes that took effect in recent weeks weren't directly related to the June 21 endorsement.
