Documentary on murdered Guatemalan trade unionist to be screened at Milan Film Festival
A film recounting the story of trade unionist activist Pedro Zamora, who was gunned down in a Guatemalan port in January, is to be screened on at the Milan Film Festival in Italy.

The film, The Assassination of Pedro Zamora, produced for the ITF by Parachute Pictures, comprises interviews with Zamora’s family and members of the dockers’ union he led, Sindicato de Trabajadores de Empresa Portuaria Quetzal. It documents the link between his death in Puerto Quetzal and the stand he took against the sacking of dock workers and plans to privatise the port.

Part of the ITF’s campaign to seek justice for Zamora, the film is being screened at the festival at 6pm on Saturday, 22 September and is one of only nine films (out of 250 submitted) to be shown in a special section of the festival.

Stuart Howard ITF Assistant General Secretary said "The ITF sent a film crew into Guatemala to make a film on an incident that has become a rallying point for trade union rights in Guatemala. It is hard to watch this film and remain unmoved about justice and impunity in Guatemala."
