CWA Workers Receive Support at Rally

Scott Lawrence
September 27, 2007 - 12:43PM

Thursday morning at the AT&T building in downtown Beaumont.

Members of the Communications Workers of America say they wanted to make a statement and bring attention to the community that 61 jobs are being taken out of Beaumont.

AT&T is consolidating jobs and moving the positions from Beaumont to Houston. Employees have about one month to decide whether to transfer or retire, or they'll lose the jobs.

Workers with the building trade, IBEW and sheet metal unions showed their support for the AT&T workers at the informational picket.

Community leaders, including Beaumont city council members Get Williams and Jamie Smith, County Clerk Carolyn Guidry, and State Representative Joe Deshotel, joined the rally.
