Anyone have experience as a union organizer?
I'm thinking of taking aposition as a union organizer trainee. I was wondering if anyone can tell me how good/bad the job is?

2. it is something I'm interested in and want to do
but I'm a widow with a 14 year old son. It is going to involve a lot of travel and I'm worried about leaving him home without me. My sister who lives with us can take over household responsibilities but I've got to weigh the benefits ( monetary, personal satisfaction, etc.) versus the costs to my family. In other words, this will be a life changing experience for not only me, and I need to know if the sacrifice is worth it.

3. Recently went to a Wellstone Camp training for union organizing. If you get the opportunity to
attend be sure you go! Very fun and you learn a lot!

4. Long, erratic hours, lots of travel..
pay isn't real good either. You also obviously have to be a "people" person, you will hear all about people's lives and struggles, and you have to be able to be empathetic to it. Depending on where you are, it can also be dangerous/hazardous. I've known people who have been tailed, chased, roughed up, you name it. It can be very heartbreaking and also very rewarding.

Good luck!!!
