The Business Journal of Milwaukee - by Rich Kirchen

Just days after Paul Butera announced he completed the acquisition of Fresh Brands Inc., a union representing employees at company-owned Piggly Wiggly stores accused Butera of proposing "a regressive contract."

John Eiden, president of United Food & Commercial Workers Local 1473, said the union had been working under a contract extension the past two years with the previous owner of Sheboygan-based Fresh Brands, Certifresh Holdings Inc. of Hodgkins, Ill. Certifresh Holdings was created to buy Fresh Brands for $100 million in February 2006.

Eiden said on Friday that Butera proposed a contract at 11 company-owned Piggly Wiggly stores that eliminates health care benefits for some employees, reduces time off for funeral leave and cuts back on earned vacation time and holiday time off.
