GM, union (IUE-CWA represents 2,300) kick off negotiations at Moraine plant

http://www.bizjournals.com/columbus/stories/2007/10/08/daily2.html

General Motors Corp. and the IUE-CWA on Monday began talks on the Moraine plant's future production.

The IUE-CWA, which represents 2,300 hourly workers at the assembly plant near Dayton, said that through the contract negotiations it hopes to nail down a future product for the plant, which now makes mid-size sport utility vehicles.

General Motors (NYSE:GM) officials said in a statement that more change is needed to situate the company for sustained profitability and growth. The talks come just after GM announced it would suspend production at the plant for a week starting Oct. 29 because of changes in market demand. The plant has 2,500 hourly and salaried workers overall.

GM Moraine makes the Chevrolet TrailBlazer and TrailBlazer SS, GMC Envoy and Envoy Denali, Saab 9-7X, and the Isuzu Ascender.
