Seldom will you find Linda Schmidt lounging on the couch in front of the TV.

The Monroe resident may not even know the meaning of slowing down. But that's okay with her. It's the only way she knows how to live.

"I'd rather be a worker bee. I've always been like that," she said.

Ms. Schmidt, who is married to Don Chamberlin, is a member of Local 223, Utility Workers Union of America, AFL-CIO. An employee at DTE Energy's Monroe Power Plant for 25 years, she also serves on Local 223's Community Service Action Committee and has assisted with the plant's United Way campaign for many years.

"It's a busy time of the year. (Local 223) is doing a coat drive for Salvation Army right now, and the United Way kickoff is going on," she said.
