GM Offers To Buy Out Another Piece of The American Dream

http://www.laborradio.org/node/7908

By Doug Cunningham

GM is putting the finishing touches on its apparent strategic plan to destroy traditional UAW wages and benefits. It’s offering buyouts to all 74,000 GM UAW members. It’s an effort to get as many as possible to leave so they can be replaced by workers earning half the wages. The drive to destroy good U.S. auto jobs – GM calls it cutting costs – brings to an end a decades-long union-won economic benefit to working families that lifted hundreds of thousands of people into the U.S. middle class. Communities nationwide also benefited from the economic multiplier of those good auto wages as the money was spent throughout the U.S. economy. Workers replacing current autoworkers will earn about $14 an hour, too little to even afford most new GM vehicles and still keep roofs over their heads.

4. Nice GM paid these big top guys millions to get this Corp in to
this mess. These CEO's should have been in the know years ago and doing something about it.
