The federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration is investigating the death of a woman who died when her car plummeted into a construction pit in Lake Success Wednesday, according to an agency spokesman.

Julie Simon, 46, of Nesconset died at the scene, police said, and her husband Charles Simon, who worked at the Lake Success construction site, was able to jump free of the falling car.

John Chavez, a spokesman for OSHA, said the agency could not comment on the specific investigation but noted that construction pits are generally required to have "some kind of guardrail, something that would prevent a person from falling."

Nassau police said the investigation was ongoing, and a relative of Julie Simon said funeral arrangements were pending.
