By KATHIE DICKERSON
Staff Writer

COSHOCTON - Authorities are continuing to investigate the accidental death of an employee at AK Steel's Conesville plant.

David Wentz, 38, of County Road 123, Plainfield, was crushed by a coil of steel and pronounced dead at the scene Wednesday morning by Coshocton County Coroner Dr. Robert Gwinn, according to the Coshocton County Sheriff's Office.

Employees wait in line for traffic to pass as they exit the AK Steel Coshocton Works plant after their shift, Wednesday afternoon. An employee, 38-year-old David Wentz was killed in an industrial accident at the plant early Wednesday morning.

The sheriff's office received the call just before 2 a.m. Wednesday and responded with Coshocton County Emergency Medical Services and the Franklin Conesville Virginia Volunteer Fire Department.

Wentz, a maintenance technician and AK Steel employee since 1996, was performing work in an annealing department when the accident occurred, according to a statement issued by Alan McCoy, AK Steel vice president of government and public relations.

A steel coil being lowered by an overhead crane delivered the crushing injuries, according to the statement.
