GREENSBORO -- Teamsters officials are pushing to unionize UPS freight terminals in North Carolina. It’s part of a nationwide effort to organize employees who handle heavy freight for the delivery company.
The effort to organize the workers began in mid-January, and results could come in sometime in the next few weeks.
"It’s exciting, it's moving across the country in a wave,” said Jack Cipriani, the Teamsters Local 391 president.
In addition to Greensboro, the effort involves terminals in Charlotte, Raleigh, Fayetteville, Kinston and Wilmington. Union officials say about 80 percent of the 335 workers are onboard.
