Avon Lake Ford Plant Idle For Week (OH)
POSTED: 3:43 pm EDT March 13, 2008
UPDATED: 3:56 pm EDT March 13, 2008

AVON LAKE, Ohio -- The Ford assembly plant in Avon Lake is idle.

A representative said the plant shut down on Monday because of slow sales of the Econoline van, which is manufactured there.

Ford said the plant will be up and operating again next Monday, and that the shutdown will help keep production in line with demand.

It's only a week for now, but what does the future hold? Millions are living paycheck to paycheck and this week will be a hit on their wallets.

1. They will be getting sub pay...
Supplemental unemployment. When I worked at Ford, it was 85% of base pay.

2. My city!
Surprised Ford isn't shuttering the plant completely like they did the one in my old city Vermilion. Vermin's now a dilapidated ramshackle flea market with tons of houses for sale that ain't moving. All of the secondary businesses around it have closed. And that plant just sits there, grass in the parking lot higher than my knees.

Still think NAFTites and free trade advocates like the Clintons are on your side, Ohio workers?

I think that Ohio's unemployment rate and empty buildings speak for themselves regarding NAFTA.

4. And yet, she still won this state for some messed-up reason.
Methinks the workers here aren't really aware of what we know and only heard her "populist-when-it's-convenient" statements. The PeeDee didn't exactly go out of their way to publicize her crap viewpoints either.
