LOS ANGELES—Prosecutors in Los Angeles County are now union members.

The 700-member Association of Deputy District Attorneys, which had been representing prosecutors informally, is now recognized as a collective-bargaining unit. The county's Employee Relations Commission authorized the union Monday.

Association president Steve Epson says his first priority will be getting a pay hike for the union's membership.

County prosecutors start at $56,000 a year, which compares to $91,000 starting pay in San Francisco County and $76,000 in Contra Costa County.

1. Excellent!
I'm surprised it took them so long to see the light.
