As Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) travels around the country, he’s being greeted by AFL-CIO union members who have mobilized to reveal the truth about his voting record and his plans for the future of our country.
The message from working families is clear: McCain isn’t the right choice to turn around America. In fact, he’s the “McSame” as Bush.
Apparently, he’s noticed that he’s gotten the attention of workers. And he thinks we may just have a point: He says his administration will be pretty much a third term for Bush.
While his public image is that of a “maverick” and a moderate, the truth is quite different, and when he’s speaking to a reactionary audience, he’s quick to reassure them that he’s no different from the disastrous current administration.

No one has supported President Bush on Iraq more than I have. Obviously, we know that the campaign against me is that this is Bush 3. Every place I go, just about, there are AFL-CIO protestors saying I’m a Bush continuation with the war, etc. They’re trying to convince the people that’s the case and they are—well, I am. <…> As I’ve said when I was with him at the White House, I’m proud to have his support and I’d be proud to have him campaign with me.
That’s just about the straightest talk we’ve heard from McCain all season. It’s not just the war. McCain votes with Bush 89 percent of the time, on issues from taxes to outsourcing jobs. He voted to uphold Bush’s veto of a children’s health care bill, and he campaigned around the country in support of Bush’s failed attempt to privatize Social Security.
McCain’s made himself clear. Voting for him will, indeed, be a continuation of the Bush agenda. And those AFL-CIO protestors he’s talked about aren’t going anywhere. Since he won’t speak to workers, workers will have to keep confronting him at his photo ops and $2,300-a-plate dinners. Union members will get the word out in public and online: We don’t need four more years.
